I am interested in setting up a pad driven download site and have downloaded the padkit. I have a few questions:

Apparently the ASP stopped distributing padkit because of security problems, have you had security problems and if so what are they?

Is the "padkit for mods" the pure asp version or has it been modified?

What mods do you feel are most important?

I am curious if Roboform from Siber systems is in your repository? I searched for it but it did not come up in the search results. I checked the ASP repository and there is an entry for it there. Is the ASP pad repository the one you are using, do you use the complete repository or do you filter it?

I have only read a few things about what other PADkit webmasters thought reasons were for suspending the distribution. The prevalent theory is that submissions from PAD hijackers (blacklisted domains) is the major cause compounded with the duplicate content problems that not blocking these submissions would cause your site (as SE penalties).

The PADkit that we have for download here is 100% unmodified from the 2.09 version that was downloaded from the ASP web page. I got unofficial permission to post this PADkit download here - but with the caveat that I state these security reasons for ASP not distributing as well as state that there are no

What mods do you feel are most important?

I think that the most important MODs to implement would be ones that aren't written yet. This forum is opened to submissions by other programmers (I can't write all of the MODS and still have a day job, eh). In any case, I believe that a few ideas lend themselves to being MODs such as: Ignore submissions from blacklisted domains, Detect duplicated submission, Keyword/META tags, CAPTCHA system for submit (in my order of importance). I encourage you to read our post about domain blacklist security MOD from the PADkit MODs wishlist subforum. We could continue that discussion there.

The existing MODs are much less useful, but they were written as a starting point. Of these, they are both good, but the Best Match requires careful consideration since it modifies your database and may require more space.

I asked about Roboform because I did not find it via the search on the site, I see now that they did not include a keyword in the padfile for the name Roboform. When I searched for name it came correctly.

I can see the necessity of perfecting the spam blacklist algorithm, I did not recognize it was such a problem with shareware. I may have some thoughts that can be posted on the thread.
